Description:

This Winchester Model 12 Trench Gun was manufactured in 1943 and subsequently refinished. The stock retains the black, checkered, hard rubber buttplate with the Winchester logo embossed in a circle. The barrel is fitted with a parkerized, four-hole, handguard/bayonet lug. The left side of the stock is stamped with the "AA" Augusta-style Arsenal overhaul mark and the original Ordnance inspection marks that consist of the initials "G.H.D." in a rectangle above a small, 1/4-inch, Ordnance escutcheon. The right side of the receiver is roll-stamped with "U.S. and the Ordnance 'Shell and Flame' insignia below the ejection port. A smaller "shell and flame" insignia is stamped on the top of the barrel. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two-line Winchester address and patent dates followed by "-WINCHESTER-/-TRADE MARK-" in two lines and "-MODEl 12-", "-12 GA.-/CYL" and "2 3/4 CHAM.". Oval Winchester "W/P" proofmarks are stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The serial number, "1015374" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and receiver. Winchester Model 12 Trench Guns saw extensive combat service in the Pacific Theater during WWII and remained in service during the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. Most WWII production Winchester Model 12 Trench Guns were overhauled and re-issued at some point during their service life. This could be one of these examples, but AA markings are suspect.

Rating Definition:

Refurbished. The shotgun retains nearly 95% of the gray arsenal style parkerized finish. Wear is limited to some high-point wear on the receiver. The markings on the barrel and receiver are clear. The stock and forearm are both revarnished with only very minor storage wear. The original Ordnance final inspection marks on the left side of the stock are clear and the "AA" overhaul mark is questionable. This is a representative example of a WWII production Model 12 Trench Gun.
