A) Engraved British Percussion Pistol

Description:

No makers marks, with Birmingham proof mark on the bottom of the frame and barrel. Floral vine engraved frame and upper tang and fish scale motif on the hammer. Folding trigger and fitted with a finely checkered walnut grip with a silver buttcap, with cap compartment and silver thumb oval. Complete in a wooden case with brass disk on the lid, dark green felt lining, with a label affixed to the inside of the lid which reads "The Patent Safety fuze which obtained the Prize Medal at the "Royal Exhibitions."/(hand written May 16, 1859 / Mr John Whittle)/Bought of BUCKFORD, SMITH, DAVEY, AND PRYOR./Manufacturers and PATENTEE, Tuckingmill, Cornwall". In the case is a silver flask.

Rating Definition:

Fair, the metal surfaces are grey and show scattered minor to moderate pitting. The grip is about good with overall minor dents, dings and scratches. Most checkering remains crisp. The engraving is clear. The action is fine. The case is very good with some scattered minor nicks and dings on the exterior and some contact wear on the lining. The flask is good with a number of scattered minor dings.
