Manufacturer: Stevens J Arms Co
Model: 44-Rifle
Type: Rifle
Gauge: 25-20
Barrel: 26 inch part octagon
Finish: blue/casehardened
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1779
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 25
Class: Curio & Relic Long Gun
Description:

Manufactured circa 1896-1933. Blade front and adjustable buck horn rear sights, with a number 2 barrel. The upper tang is tapped for sights. Smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The barrel retains 75% original blue finish with areas thinning to a smooth plum patina. The receiver has a smooth silver gray patina with flashes of original case colors. The lever and buttplate have a smooth mottled brown and silver gray patina. The wood is fine with almost all of the original varnish remaining which is beginning to craze near the butt. There are a few overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear and crisp. The action is fine.

B) Stevens Tip Up Single Shot Rifle

Manufacturer: Stevens J Arms Co
Model: Tip Up-Rifle
Type: Rifle
Gauge: 32-20
Barrel: 26 inch octagon
Finish: blue/nickel
Grip:
Stock: walnut
Item Views: 1779
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 25
Class: Antique
Description:

Manufactured circa 1870s-1895. Breech combination front sight, rear sight removed and filler block installed, and a short range tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is drilled for sight/scope mounting. The bottom of barrel is marked with the number "14" and "25.20". Writer suspects that a 25-20 barrel was used by the factory to make a 32-20. The "32-20" marking appears to be factory marked. Nicely figured smooth straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished. The barrel now has a smooth brown patina with some scattered blue finish. The receiver retains 90% nickel finish with wear on the right and under sides. The trigger guard retains traces of the nickel finish with a mottled gray patina on the balance. The buttplate shows 80% nickel finish with areas of gray patina. The stock has had a coat of varnish applied some time ago, with some scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. The hammer doesn't hold a cock position.
