Manufactured in 1855. This Second Model London Model 1851 Navy revolver has the distinctive steel back strap and large oval trigger guard. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON-" and the left side of the lug is marked with the crown "V" and "GP" proofmarks, below "WD" (War Department). The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The matching serial number is stamped on the loading lever, frame, trigger guard, back strap, cylinder pin and cylinder, with the wedge renumbered "508" to match. The hammer spur has the bordered knurling found on London Navy hammers. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and marked with the crown "V" and "GP" proof alternating between the nipple recesses. The barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap are blue, the loading lever, frame and hammer are casehardened and fitted with a smooth varnished walnut grip. Complete in a wooden case with inset brass plaque on the lid and brown velvet lining with the directions for loading and cleaning label affixed to the inside of the lid. In the case is a bag shaped powder flask marked "COLTS NAVY FLASK/JAMES DIXON / &SONS/ SHEFFIELD" on the top, 250 count Eley Bros cap tin, (partially full), brass two cavity bullet mold, with "COLT'S/PATENT" on the iron sprue, nipple wrench/screwdriver, box of 5 combustible envelope cartridges, wooden handled cleaning rod and about a dozen lead bullets.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel retains 80% original bright blue finish with overall scattered flaking, with areas of smooth brown patina. The cylinder retains 60% original blue finish with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The scene is 100% visible and clear. The grip straps have a smooth gray patina with traces of the original blue finish. The frame and loading lever retain 60% original case colors with smooth gray on the balance. The grip remains fine with some lower edge wear and numerous pressure dents and scratches (typical of English storage practices). The markings are clear. The action is excellent. The case is very good with scratches on the exterior. The lining and wood in the area of the front sight are heavily worn, otherwise there is light to moderately heavy wear on the lining. The cartridge box is good with three separated edges. The remaining accessories are very good.
