Manufactured in 1893. The top of the barrel is marked "-MANUFACTURED BY THE/WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CONN. U,S.A.-" ahead of the rear sight and "45-70" at the breech. The lower tang is marked "PAT. OCT. 14, 1884/JAN. 20, 1885" directly behind the trigger and the serial number at the end, with "-MODEL 1886-" marked on the upper tang. Blade front sight, adjustable rear "ski slope" sight graduated to 1,200 yards. Mounted with a smooth full walnut forearm with single barrel band equipped with a sling swivel and steel forend cap, and straight grip stock with sling swivel and carbine buttplate with compartment containing an original cleaning rod. The accompanying factory letter verifies the musket configuration, caliber and that it was received and shipped from the warehouse on September 14, 1893, with 9 other arms on order number 22833.

Very good. The barrel retains traces dark original blue finish mainly in the protected area along the forearm with a smooth mottled brown patina on the balance. The breech bolt retains much of the faded original blue finish and the remaining parts have a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is also very good with a number of small minor scratches on the upper left rear of the forearm and some scattered minor dings, dents on balance. The markings are clear. The action is excellent. The Winchester Model 1886 Musket is among the rarest of all Winchester Muskets.
