Catalog Page: 264
Class: Antique
Description:

Manufactured in 1884 and subsequently nickel plated and custom embellished, possibly by Wolf & Klar in Fort Worth, Texas. The revolver is absent of the usual top barrel marking and has the three line, three patent dates on the left side of the frame, and "45 CAL" on the upper left front of the trigger guard. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. Both revolvers are Western Trophy Shop type engraved with punch dot engraving consisting of flower, leaf and zigzag patterns on the barrel, frame and cylinder flats. Both are fitted with beautifully carved two piece ivory pearl grips with a carved steer head, a gold Mexican eagle and snake medallion and a circular "RS" cartouche inset on the right panel. The left panel features gold and silver floral inlays as well as the same Mexican eagle medallion. The bottom of the panels have engraved and hammered copper buttplates for that flashier look when holstered. Standard blade front and frame notched rear sights. The pair are complete in a contemporary walnut, "COLT" branded case with fitted light blue velvet lining. It may prove interesting to research who "RS" may have been. Undoubtedly these revolvers were embellished for a Mexican soldier/politician.

Rating Definition:

Fine as professionally embellished, showing 98% of the nickel, with mild handling marks overall. Traces of the barrel address remain. Grips are excellent, with a few small chips. Mechanically needs adjustment, the cylinder does not lock-up. The frame markings and engraving are clear. The case excellent.

Barrel markings absent, with two line, three patent dates on the left side of the frame followed by the circled Rampant Colt. The copy of a factory letter states the original finish was blue, grips "Not Listed" and that it was shipped to Simmons Hardware Company, St. Louis, Mo. as 1 of 25 on January 11, 1910.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as custom embellished with almost all of the nickel plating remaining, showing some light handling marks overall. The grips are fine with a small chip and crack on the left side toe.
