Colt Third model derringers were engraved in extremely limited numbers, and to find a true matching set in such extraordinary condition is quite amazing. These factory engraved Third Model derringers are the "High Hammer" Variation, with the large italicized "-COLT-" on top of the barrel. The underside of the barrel is stamped with the "Crown/V" and "Crown/P" English proofs and the underside of the frame just ahead of the trigger is stamped "NOT ENGLISH MAKE". The pistols feature approximately 75% coverage, floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background on the barrel and frame with a scallop border around the muzzle, scallop and simple line bordering on the frame and a simple line and scallop design on the back strap. The serial number "7503" is stamped on the inside of the left grip as well as a large "E" indicating factory engraving. The barrel and frame are nickel finished, the hammer is casehardened and the screws and trigger are an attractive niter blue. The pistol is finished with ivory stocks numbered to the gun. Complete with a blue velvet lined English oak case with a Pall Mall lid on the inside of the lid.

Excellent plus with 99% plus original nickel with only the faintest hint of storage marks. The engraving is sharp, crisp and clear.The screws and hammer retain 98% of their original handsome niter blue finish. The hammer exhibits all of its outstanding vibrant and rich case colors. The stocks have taken on a beautiful aged mellow patina. The case is excellent showing only minor contact wear. The inside label has some age spotting.
