This is an example of an AC 44 being utilized as a sniper prototype using the experimental ZKF43/1 RLN coded with serial number 908895 improved scope. Though some sources say this is a Zeiss contract, others feel that it is a Hensoldt initiative. The addition of Q and R to the prefix of Wehrmacht codes (i.e. RLN) were probably added in early 1945 to change already existing codes for further security. This new design would have a more precise adjustment system with eye correctors built in. Proper bright blue heat tempered retaining bands with a Walther 359 proofed unnumbered late war mount. Serial long straps for lens covers. The ZFK/43 scope was a zinc alloy casting which was a total departure from the previous ZFK model. Also the ZFK reticle was replaced with reticle etched directly onto the optical glass (note Darrin Weavers book). Weaver has recorded two other serial numbers in his book on the G-43, the lowest being 908808, the other as highest was 908899. It is believed that perhaps 100 were produced. Note that the scope (no. 908895) on this rifle is pictured in Peter Senich's book "THE GERMAN SNIPER", page 357. The rifle itself has on the left side of the rough forged receiver an "eagle/359" Waffenamt proof mark, then "G43" followed by the serial number, and then "ac44". The opposite side of the receiver has only a single small eagle/359 Waffenamt proof. The bolt carrier has the hollow cocking knob on the left side and the locking latch is on the right side with the reinforcing web on top. It is fitted with a later stamped, action cover and sliding dust cover. The right rear side of the receiver has the scope mounting dovetail with a late war rough cast Walther scope mount. It has the standard hooded blade front sight and the military tangent rear sight graduated to 1,200 meters. The rifle has the correct laminated G43 stock and hand guard. The blued magazine is marked "aye", "WaA843" and "G43" on the left side. It has a correct wartime laminated stock and hand guard with the steel buttplate with buttstock compartment that contains an original field manual and small aluminum parts container. The left side of the buttstock has a double eagle/359 Waffenamt proof along with the same proof in the pistol grip area. The underside of the stock has the matching serial number 3244. It is complete with a cleaning rod with slotted head, a smooth unmarked brown leather sling and a small rubber muzzle cover.

Excellent plus, virtually unissued, with 99% of the original blued finish with only edge and high spot wear overall with some flaking of the blue/black special order waterproof finish on the trigger guard bow (You never see this finish to this extent on other G43/K43 rifles!). The stock has clear proofs overall and the stock and buttplate have an old protective varnish over the original wood, but still shows down in the grain of the laminates. These protective finishes are typical of sniper designated G-43s. The hand guard is excellent, with only some minor handling marks. The scope has the rough cast/turned finish and so does the mount, with excellent blue on the spring steel scope straps. This is an entirely waterproof rifle and indicative that it was for sniper use or testing. The optics are clear and the leather lens covers are in excellent condition. An exceptional representative example of a Walther G43 ZFK43/1 sniper rifle rig. This is perphaps the rarest German sniper scope produced during World War II. Never seen on the open market, a chance to own one of the rarest sniper systems.
