Description:

This is a excellent example of an original WWII 1940 dated Mauser P08 Luger rig. This rig is complete with an original light brown leather holster and extra "unnumbered" replacement magazines. These early WWII lugers have always been difficult to obtain in this condition because they were produced early enough in WWII that they were still subjected to 5 full years of field use throughout Europe and the Eastern front, and consequently are highly desirable and much sought after by collectors. This specific Luger still has the full chamber date of 1940 with the two-digit secret wartime code of "42" for the Mauser factory, before they switched to the "byf" markings. The right side of the receiver carries the early Eagle/655 Waffenamt next to the single eagle firing proof with both of those proofs also located on the rear left and right side of the barrel. This luger is correctly numbered in the military manner with the full serial number, (267) stamped on the front of the frame, the left side of the barrel extension and the underside of the barrel, with the last two digits (67) of the serial are correctly stamped on the remaining smaller parts. This model has the standard inverted "v" front sight with the fixed rear sight and the safety and extractor correctly marked "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" respectively. This luger is accompanied by two original type two, stamped blued steel Army magazines, that have the aluminum base. The bottom of each base as noted is unnumbered and the luger magazine, is marked with only a small number "42" indicating a Mauser factory production magazine that is correctly stamped with a single eagle/655 acceptance proof and the second magazine is marked with only a single eagle/655 proof. This exceptional luger is complete with an early war brown leather holster that is marked on the back side, with a clear, sharp "cey/40/Eagle WaA47 " (Karl Budichovsky & Sohne Vienna) with the "P08" markings in the upper right hand corner. The inside of the flap and back side of the holster has been marked in a red colour "M8797".

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 99% of the original blue finish with wear on the edges and high spots overall with some light thinning of the blue on the lower rear back strap and stock lug area. The grips are in excellent condition with nice checkering on both sides. The holster is in excellent condition with a nice light-medium brown color overall with the surface of the leather material showing some minor scuffing and scratching from light use and handling over the years, with nice tight original stitching overall with clear sharp markings on the back side. An example of an excellent original WWII Mauser Luger rig, that would be very difficult to improve on.
