Description:

This is an all original "like new" late WWII production British Enfield No 4 MK 1(T) sniper rifle, complete with the matching scope mount, matching scope, matching metal scope can with the original wooden storage/carrying case. These rifles were the standard British sniper rifle developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s and are considered to be one of the most accurate and rugged sniper rifles issued during WWII. This rifle was selected for accuracy during regular production and shipped to Holland & Holland for conversion into a sniper configuration. Holland & Holland carefully bedded the rifle barrel for maximum accuracy, modified the rear sight, and installed scope mounting blocks on the left side of the receiver, to which they fitted a No. 32 Telescopic Sight, thus converting the rifle to a No. 4 MKI (T) configuration. The right side of the receiver ring is marked with a "crown/GP" proofmark, over ENGLAND and the left side of the butt socket is marked "M47C/1945/T34836/TR", and it has the original matching bolt. The bolt head is stamped with a "0" indicating minimal use. The rifle is fitted with an original, matching No 32 Mk3 scope that is marked on top of the tube "TEL. STG. No 32 Mk.3/O.S. 2039 A./A.K. & S. No 23294 /1945/British broad arrow proof. The lower right side has a single large RED "W" painted on the scope tube, indicating that the scope passed the water proofing test. The scope mount is correctly stamped with the rifle serial number (T34836) and the rings are numbered 962 and 963 respectively. The scope and mount are correctly housed in the original, No. 8 metal scope can and glued on the inside the lid is a small label that has the matching rifle serial number and scope serial number typed on it, indicating it was matching to the rifle. This scope can is also complete with an original and very rare leather scope can carrying strap. The rifle has the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight. The rifle has the original WWII British issue semi-pistol grip stock and full hand guard, both of which have the correct British proof and acceptance marks with the forend correctly serial numbered to the rifle. The butt stock has been correctly stamped/marked on the underside with "S51", the wartime code for Holland & Holland, indicating who performed the conversion work and who also added on a wooden cheekpiece. The matching scope number (23294) has been correctly stamped on top of the flat behind the receiver. The rifle is complete with an original WWII US, leather sling, original British Army proofed, leather scope covers, British Army, white canvas rifle case and cleaning kit. As noted above this rifle is complete with an original, correct wartime S.A. No15 MK1 green wooden storage container with an original British Army equipment label on the end of the box.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, with 99% of the original wartime black painted finish, minor handling marks on the edges and high spots overall. The stock and hand guards are all in excellent condition with only minor handling marks with clear, sharp and distinct proofs and serial numbers. The scope mount also retain 99% of it's original WWII black painted on finish with only minor finish loss on the edges and high spots with the scope retaining 98% of it's original finish with only minor thinning/finish loss on the sunshade of the scope from the lens covers sliding off and on. The markings are clear and sharp and the optics are also clear. The only issue is that the windage and elevation knobs are stuck (a very common occurrence with these scopes) however this can be corrected by a competent repair shop. The leather lens cover, leather sling, metal scope can and white rifle case are all in excellent condition. The No.15 wooden storage box is in fine condition with 90% of the original green painted finish remaining overall with wear on the ends and corners of the box. The leather handles, and labels inside the box are in very good condition. Just an exceptional example of an all original and all matching complete WWII British Army sniper rig.
