Description:

This is a fine example of an early 1906 American Eagle Luger that was produced by the DWM factory. These early Lugers were made expressly for export to the United States to increase overseas sales by the DWM factory. This example is even more desirable in that it has the 'fat barrel' in 9mm version. These were probably some of the best Lugers made by the DWM factory and all of them exhibit excellent fit and finish with beautiful hand polish, rust blued metal and straw colored smaller components. The model has the large emblazoned "American Eagle Crest" on top of the chamber area, correct short style frame and upper receiver with the 4 3/4 inch tapered barrel, extractor marked "LOADED" as intended for the American market with the lower safety area correctly polished and of course the DWM logo on the front toggle. Evidently, this pistol was produced early enough in the production cycle that DWM had not started applying the standard B,U, and G commercial proofmarks as the barrel and barrel extension are completely unproofed. It is numbered in the commercial fashion with the front of the frame and underside of the barrel marked with the full serial number, with the last two digits of the serial number stamped on the back sides of the various small parts. There are no commercial "Crown N" proofmarks on the pistol anywhere with only "GERMANY" stamped on the front of the frame below the serial number. The pistol is fitted with a set of European checkered walnut grips and it is complete with a correct nickel-plated magazine body with a unmarked wooden base.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% of an old professional restoration with some slight wear on the edges and high spots overall with thinning on the grip safety and side plate. The various small parts retain 98% of an restored straw colors overall. The edges and corners are sharp and distinct and not rounded off or buffed and the markings are clear and sharp. It has matching numbers on the various parts except the magazine which is unnumbered. The grips are in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering on both sides with only minor handling marks in a few placed but no cracks or damage anywhere. A nice example of a desirable and popular 1906 American Eagle Luger in the desirable 9mm Luger caliber.
