Description:

This is a unique example of a very early Krieghoff "G" code p.08 Luger as manufactured for the Luftwaffe. This Luger is marked with the "G" code over the chamber which was the secret wartime code indicating manufacture in 1935 and it is estimated that only a total of 50 were ever produced, so the survival rate is probably extremely low! The pistol has a high serial number of "91" as these were numbered they were scattered in the serial number range from "1-100". This Luger has the early features such as the early B-2 variation marked toggle that has only the "H & K" marked on each side of the "Krieghoff Anchor" with only the word "SUHL", marked below that. The blade is symmetrical and the points of the anchor nearly touch the outer edge of the letters "H" and "K" and the word "SUHL" slightly slants to the right with the flat bottom on the letter "U". It has the typical military style serial number placement with the full serial number "91" on the front of the frame and the left side of the barrel extension with the same full serial number "91" on all the various smaller parts. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the early "LWaA" 1st -stage 1 early Luftwaffe acceptance proof followed by the Luftwaffe test proof and small "eagle/2" proof. The underside of the barrel is marked only with the bore diameter and the early "Eagle/2" acceptance proof. The pistol is fitted with the correct early style Krieghoff checkered walnut grips that has the slightly trapezoidal/flat top checkered pattern that are correctly not numbered or proofed on the backs. The pistol is complete with one unmarked nickel plated magazine with the aluminum base that has been renumbered (91) to match the pistol and which has the correct style single up side down "Eagle / 2" proof above the serial number.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% of an old professionally restored blue finish overall, slightly thinning on the grip straps with some slight wear on the right frame rail. The edges and corners are nice and sharp and it has clear distinct markings and proof marks overall. A professional restoration would be completely acceptable to a collector, especially with such an extremely low production quantity of 50 total. The face of the side plate has also been renumbered, however the back side also carries the original serial number and a single "eagle/2" Luftwaffe acceptance proof. The various small parts retain 95% of their restored straw colors overall. The walnut grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct checkering on both grip panels, with no cracks, with only a very minor repair on the lower toe of the right grip. This luger has visible matching numbers except for the grips and magazine as noted above. A representative example of a "'G" date Krieghoff Luger p.08 pistol.
