Description:

Silver blade front and notch rear sights, with "J. ROOP" on the lockplate and double set trigger. Smooth full length stock with a brass forearm tip, wood ramrod, raised cheekpiece and brass reverse plate, patchbox and buttplate. According to Sellers' "American Gunsmiths" John Roop (as opposed to John Rupp, a different maker) operated out of Allentown, PA circa 1766 to 1775, and specialized in Kentucky flintlocks.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with a brown gray patina overall, showing some areas of spotting and handling marks. Possibly assembled, with a replaced patchbox. A screw is absent from tang. Stock is good as reshaped, with mild chips and cracks, along with attractive grain. Mechanically fair.
