Description:

This is a Second Model carbine as manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, from 1863 to 1865. The left side of the receiver is stamped with the four line Maynard patent date marking and the right side has the three line Massachusetts Arms address. Lower tang has the serial number and "1865". "S" is stamped on some of the components with "N" on the rear sight. Pinched blade front sight and three leaf rear sight to 500 yards, with a saddle ring bar with ring on the left side of the receiver. The smooth oiled stock is stamped with two clear cartouches (GWL and AM).

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 97% original blue finish showing some mild thinning. The buttplate has a mottled brown patina. The hammer, receiver and lever retain 90% plus darkened original case colors. The stock is also excellent with a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
