This French pinfire revolver is accompanied by documents from "The Union drummer Boy" and Antique American Firearms and was once in the collection of General Lee's Headquarters Museum. The revolver was reportedly found by A. Mosman, a local Gettysburg resident on July 6, 1863 on Barlow's Knoll. The revolver was displayed in the collection of General Lee's Headquarters Museum until March of 2000, when it was deaccessioned. The document from Antique American Firearms lists the serial number on this revolver as a range match to Lefaucheux revolvers numbered 25,000 to 37,000 as issued to Western Union Cavalry Regiments, 5th Illinois, 2nd, 5th, and 6th Kansas, 3rd and 6th Kentucky, 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th Missouri and 1st, 2nd and 3rd Wisconsin. A photo copy of the inventory list from the General Lee's Headquarters Museum listing this revolver as number 427 and selling price also accompanies the revolver. A letter from "The Union drummer Boy" guarantees that the revolver is original and authentic to the Civil War period and that it was recovered from the Gettysburg battlefield. The top of the barrel is marked "INVON E. LEFAUCHEUX BRTE PARIS", the left side of the frame is marked with the two line arched address and the serial number on the opposite. The revolver is fitted with smooth two piece walnut grip. The lanyard on the butt is absent. A copy of the deaccession letter also accompanies the revolver.

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. The grips are also very good with a few minor dings and handling marks overall. The action needs work, the cylinder does not rotate when the hammer is cocked. The markings are readable.
