Description:

1) Fire bucket with a brass encircled star mounted on the side. The star is marked "J.E. HARTER/U.S.S. PAUL JONES". The U.S.S. Paul Jones, a 1210-ton "double-ender" side-wheel steam gunboat built in Baltimore, Maryland, was commissioned in 1862. During the Civil War, the ship participated in the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron and in the bombardments of Confederate fortifications on the Ogeechee River, Georgia, in July and at Saint John's Bluff, Florida, in September 1862. Out of commission for repairs between August 1864 and April 1865, she served for the next two years in the Gulf of Mexico and decommissioned in July 1867. 2) Camp chair with an initial plate inscribed "Lt. W.R. Steele/15th Ms. Inf." the seat appears to be a piece of floral pattern carpet. The accompanying military records state that William R. Steele received recognition for his performance as a Major at the battles of Wilderness and Spotsylvania Court House and as a Captain at the battle of Bristow Station. He was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant on October 1, 1864.

Rating Definition:

1) Good, with some dents in the metal, a few small holes on the bottom and some oxidation (more prevalent on the inside). 2) Very good, with a worn seat and thinning varnish.
