Description:

Manufactured circa 1847 to 1848 with approximately 1000 Jenks tape primer carbines produced by Remington. The top of the barrel is marked "P / W. JENKS / U.S.N. / RP / P / 1847 / CAST-STEEL" immediately ahead of the oval loading port. Lock plate is marked "REMINGTON'S / HERKIMER / N.Y.". The underside of the breech lever is marked "5 / 39". Smooth straight grip stock with brass furniture, sling ring behind the trigger and "P" stamps on some of the components. The left stock flat is stamped with a clear "RP" inspector initials.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 97% original brown finish showing some thinning. The breechblock, hammer, lock and trigger retain 98% original case colors. The brass is excellent. The stock is also excellent with some very scattered minor storage dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
