Description:

Also known as the "Side Lever Hall", Simeon North manufactured approximately 10,500 of these carbines between 1844 and 1855. The top of the breechblock is marked the standard marking which is only partially visible and there are no other visible markings. The carbine has the breechblock thumb lever that was finished in bright niter blue on the right side of the receiver and extended sling bar and ring on the opposite side. Fixed post and notch sights and iron cleaning rod. Mounted with a smooth one-piece full straight grip stock, secured by two barrel bands and smooth flat iron buttplate. The Model 1843 Hall/North Carbine was the last of the Hall carbines and rifles issued by the U.S. Army. Model 1843 Hall carbines were carried by U.S. Dragoons during the Mexican War and continued in service through most of the Civil War, being issued to many cavalry units in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas.

Rating Definition:

Poor. The metal surfaces have a dark patina with overall minor pitting. The stock has some gouges on the left side of the forearm area, a crude period "FS" carved into the right upper rear of the buttstock, a small round filled repair on the right side of the buttstock and overall scattered minor dings, dents and scratches. Only part of the breechblock marking is visible and the remaining marks are not visible due to pitting. Mechanically good.
