Description:

Manufactured by the Providence Tool Company and developed and tested during the Civil War, the Peabody Carbine entered production after the end of the war, with significant quantities purchased by Connecticut and South Carolina as well as many foreign countries. The carbine has a folding rear sight with three apertures graduated to 600 yards and a saddle ring staple with ring mounted on the left side of the receiver. Receiver has the Peabody patent date and Providence Tool Co. marking on the left side. A faint inspection stamp is located on the left wrist, with most components stamped with single letter inspection marks.

Rating Definition:

Good. The carbine retains traces of faded original blue finish with the balance a mottled gray patina. The receiver and lever retain no original case colors and the replacement breechblock, hammer, and buttplate retain 95% of the vivid original case colors. The refinished stock is good with some minor pressure dents and dings with a couple deep dents. Mechanically fine.
