Description:

One of the most widely used handguns of the Civil War, the Remington New Model Army was the primary revolver issued to Union cavalry after the fire at the Colt's factory in 1863. The New Model Army was manufactured from 1863 to 1873 with a total production of approximately 132,000 and represented the last of Remington's 44 caliber percussion revolvers. The revolver has an 8 inch barrel and blue finish, casehardened hammer, fire blue trigger and brass trigger guard. The top barrel flat is marked: "PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858/E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION NEW YORK. U.S. A./NEW-MODEL". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom barrel flat and on the left side of the frame under the grip. Small single letter inspection marks are stamped on most components. Fitted with smooth walnut grips with a visible boxed cartouche on the lower left side.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 40% plus original blue finish mixed with areas of smooth gray and brown patina. The trigger guard has an aged patina. The grips are very good with a fine cartouche, a few moderate chips along the bottom edges and scattered handling marks. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
