A sheet metal cover has been installed over the front sight. Lock plate is dated "1858" behind the hammer, with an American Eagle on the Maynard primer door and "U.S./HARPERS FERRY" at the front. Smooth stock with 3 "U" marked barrel bands, a tulip-head ramrod, "WCK" and "RB", "JAS" oval cartouches on the left side, and a smooth buttplate marked "US" and "51" on the heel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, showing the armory bright polish overall with a few areas of light pitting and mild handling marks. There is an extra hole drilled in the tang which has been fitted with a filler screw. Stock is excellent, with light storage dings and scratches, and exceptional cartouches. Two drilled and tapped holes are present on top of the wrist, along with a rectangular indentation caused by a removed tang sight. Mechanically excellent. Even with the barely noticable mentioned modifications, this is an exceptional Model 1855 Harpers Ferry Long Arm!
