Description:

There were approximately 25 contracted makers of the Model 1841 Rifle-Musket. This particular example was one of the Windsor Lock contract and was manufactured by William Muir & Co. The lock is dated "1864" behind the hammer and marked with the eagle motif over "U.S." and "WM MUIR & CO./WINDSOR LOCKS, CO." The left side breech end of the barrel is marked with a faint "V/P/eagle head". Fixed blade front sight which doubles as a bayonet lug, three leaf rear sight graduated to 500 yards, clean-out screw on the bolster, all parts armory bright, iron ramrod with tulip head and mounted with a full one-piece walnut stock with three barrel bands, clear "ELA" cartouche on the left flat and carbine style buttplate. Complete with a "US" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The lock plate is very fine with sharp markings and the correct armory bright polish. The metal surfaces remain bright for the most part with scattered minor discoloration with the barrel having been buffed bright leaving no markings. The stock remains fine with some overall scattered minor storage dings and scratches. The markings remain clear. The action is excellent. The bayonet is good with scattered discoloration and a faint "US" marking.
