This Model 1816 Musket was originally manufactured in 1827 and than converted to a percussion musket by Hewes & Phillips in 1861 for the state of New Jersey. The top of the barrel has the "H&P" Hewes and Phillips marking, the left rear of the barrel has the "NJ" New Jersey marking, and the barrel tang is dated "1861". The lock plate has standard Wickham markings with the date "1827". The stock has a cartouche on the left flat and a "US" marked buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The musket has a bright armory polish with areas of protective varnish applied overall. The stock is fine with a series of minor pressure dents between the front and rear bands (right side), a minor chip missing near the bolster, and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. This musket should clean up very nice!
