Description:

Fixed sights, with the Remington & Sons address atop the barrel, signature "web" on the underside of the barrel, smooth grips with "44" faintly marked on the left grip and a lanyard swivel on the butt. A note is secured to the inside of the left grip panel, reading "THIS REMINGTON SILVER PLATED/ 44-40 WAS GIVEN TO ME BY MY/ UNCLE BILL CODY (BUFFALO BILL)/ JULY 1889./ NELSON DECKER/ ASH ST. BEDFORD O." . Information supplied by the consignor identified Nelson Decker as the son of May Decker, sister to William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and outlines a chain of possession from Decker to Mac McGarity, a relative, to one Thomas G. Riddles, the consignor's grandfather and friend to McGarity.

Rating Definition:

Very good, with over 90% of the period replate finish, showing some mild pitting below the surface, and minor flaking and handling marks. Grips are good as sanded and refinished, with a chip on the right toe and pressure dents. Half cock needs adjustment, otherwise mechanically good.
