Unsure of the exact model, but shares characteristics of more than one model of Ballard rifle. The left side of the receiver is marked "MARLIN FIRE ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED, FEBRUARY. 9, 1875. / BALLARD'S. PATENT. NOV. 5, 1861." and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame. The barrel was manufactured without provisions for a front sight and is equipped with scope block bases. The tang mounted sight has been removed. The barrel is unmarked and gauges at 25 caliber. Blue barrel, casehardened remaining parts, adjustable double set triggers, and mounted with a smooth walnut Schnabel forearm and straight grip stock with cheekpiece and large nickel plated steel Swiss buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Near mint as custom refurbished. The new custom, unmarked octagonal barrel retains 99% blue finish with some very mild thinning. The action retains 98% bright case colors. The lever retains 85% case colors with a smooth gray patina on the balance. The custom wood is very fine with a semi-circular cut on top of wrist and a few minor dings and handling marks. The buttplate retains 99% nickel finish. The markings are clear. The action is very good. A very attractive custom Schuetzen rifle.
