Description:

This is an outstanding example of a late WWII 1942 production Mauser Banner Police Luger rig, that is complete with the two matching magazines, and a police holster. This extraordinary Nazi Police Banner Luger was manufactured in 1942. These late Police lugers are very desirable in that they all had very limited production They were commercial lugers that have the desirable Mauser banner on top of the toggle and exhibit the exceptional late war, high polish salt-blue finish on the barrel, frame, various small parts, has the two-piece, checkered walnut stocks and was equipped with the rear safety over the side plate. The upper safe, safety lever position is marked: "GESICHERT" and the left side of the ejector is marked: "GELADEN". The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the "Eagle/Swastika/L" police acceptance stamp. The pistol chamber is dated "1942" and the upper toggle link is stamped with the Mauser "Banner" trademark. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with the "Eagle/N" commercial proofmarks which are also stamped on the left side of the barrel extension and breech block. The full serial number, "5868y" is stamped on the front of the frame and "5868" is stamped on the left side of the barrel extension. The pistol has two, Haenel marked blue, magazines with pinned aluminum bottoms; one has the original full Haenel/Schmeisser Patent markings while the second one is marked with the later "fxo" marking with the double "Eagle 37" acceptance proof. The magazines are numbered on the bottom of the aluminum bases, "2/5865" and "3/5868" with no lower case letter indicating that they were numbered by the unit police with magazine number 3 having an Eagle "C" police proof. The pistol is complete with a black, cowhide, P.08 police holster that has the distinctive vertical closure strap with aluminum stud on the front of the flap. The back of the holster that is stamped with the "A. FISCHER/BERLIN .2/ 1943" who was the primary supplier of police holsters during WWII. It is estimated that only a total of 5500, 1942 dated, German Police P.08 pistols were ever produced.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 99% original blued finish with some slight edge and high spot wear with some minor blue loss on very front and sides of the front sight base barrel band. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering overall. The holster is also in excellent to like new condition with super clear sharp markings with nice tight stitching showing it's original black color. As noted, the pistol has two matching magazines and the pistol has all original matching numbers, except for the side plate, take down lever and trigger which were obviously a police or factory mistake as all three pieces are originally numbered "48" with the 4 being over stamped with the correct matching number "6". The color of the finish and wear on all three parts perfectly match the pistol itself. A super nice example of an unissued matching Nazi Police Luger rig.
