Description:

This is a beautiful example of a Colt Thompson Model 1921/28 U.S. Navy overstamped submachine gun. This specific submachine gun was original produced in the 1921 configuration, and later, over stamped with "U.S. NAVY MODEL OF 1928". This model came into being because of the lagging sales for the 1921 series of SMG, and the fact that the USMC successfully used many of these New SMGs in Nicaragua. So the Auto Ordnance company began to remark their inventory with the "U.S. Navy and 1928" markings with the intent of peaking sales interest to various police and Government agencies. The primary difference between the 1921 and 1928 configurations is that the latter has a slightly reduced cyclic rate of fire. The Thompson SMG is probably one of the most famous and best manufactured, machine guns ever produced. This is based on their superior manufacturing, that has all fully machined parts that exhibit excellent fit and finish. If you ever have a chance to disassemble one of these weapons you will be amazed at how well they were made, the parts just slide together like glass. This specific weapon still has all the traditional and distinctive Thompson features such as; the Auto Ordnance, ported compensator on the end of the barrel, the short 10 1/2 inch barrel with cooling fins, the vertical pistol grip, the detachable buttstock, and the fully adjustable Thompson ladder rear sight that is graduated from 100-600 yards. This example also still retains the large headed recoil spring guide. The left side of the receiver is now marked "U.S. Navy/MODEL OF 1921" with the number '8' over stamped on '1' in 1921, with the serial number (7483) stamped below the factory markings block. The left rear portion of the receiver is marked: "THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN/CALIBER .45 AUTOMATIC COLT CARTRIDGE/MANUFACTURED BY/ COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO./HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.". The right side is marked with single circled "JHB" inspector marked, followed the five lines of patent dates along with the two line 'AUTO-ORDNANCE CORPORATION, NEW YORK U.S.A". The top of the receiver and is marked with the original "Bullet" logo with 'THOMSPON' inside. This lot is complete with one original 50 round drum magazine, made by the Auto-Ordnance Corp. of NY along with one 20 round stick magazine, a nickel plated oiler and a reproduction FBI style carrying case. "This weapon is a transferable Class III, fully automatic weapon that is accompanied by the appropriate ATF/Federal Tax stamp. However, prior to bidding, please be sure to check all your state and federal laws to ensure that you can legality own this weapon and that it can be transferred to you in your state."

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus original blue finish overall. The remaining portion of the weapon shows only slight edge and high spot wear overall with some minor scratches on the right side trigger group. The barrels finish differs from the rest of the gun, indicating possibly replaced. A common occurance on Thompson SMG's. The buttstock, vertical grip, and pistol grip all have a nice matching medium brown color overall showing numerous light handling marks and minor pressure dents, dings, and scratches on the sides of the buttstock and grips. The receiver and lower trigger group have matching serial numbers. The various accessories are all in excellent condition and the reproduction case is like new. Certainly this is an exceptional example of a very high grade Colt Thompson 1921/28 Navy Over Stamp submachine gun.
