Description:

1) USAAF A-2 flight jacket size 40 with the leather name tag "J.T. BLACKIS" on the left chest. John Blackis was the pilot for the B-24 "Scheherazade" (named after the wife of the sultan of India and narrator of the tales in the Arabian Nights' Entertainments) of the 389th Bombardment Group. According to Blackis, the jacket was worn by him during a low level Ploesti raid, the famous low-level attack against the Rumania oil refineries that produced nearly a third of the petrol that fueled Hitler's war machine. Also included are two photos of Blackis' crew, one aerial photo of a formation of B-24s and personal letters between Blackis and the original buyer of the jacket. 2) USAAF A-11 leather flight helmet without the receiver. 3) Privately purchased A-2 style jacket made by Clipper Mist, a company established in the late 1960s. The left chest has a Amphibious Construction Battalion 2 patch. 4) A-2 jacket made by Rough Wear Clothing, size 38. Name tag has been removed. 5) U.S. Navy M-422A flight jacket made by Edmund T. Church Co.

Rating Definition:

1) The jacket is in fair condition. 2) Very good plus, showing some wear. 3) Excellent, with some very minor wear. 4) Very good, with worn leather, some wear on the cuffs and waist band and some small tears on the lining near the collar. 5) Very good, with some speckling and a couple of minor areas of white paint on the leather, right pocket button missing, torn cuffs, and a few tears in the lining.
