Description:

This is an all original WWII British Enfield No 4 MK 1(T) sniper rifle, complete with the original scope mount, No.32 scope, canvas scope bag and the original No. 15 wooden storage/carrying case. These rifles were the standard British sniper rifle developed in the late 1930s and used until the early 1960s. These rifles were specially selected for accuracy during regular production and shipped to Holland & Holland for conversion into a sniper configuration. Holland & Holland carefully bedded the rifle barrel for maximum accuracy, added on a wooden cheek piece, modified the rear sight and installed scope mounting blocks on the left side of the receiver, to mount the sniper scope, thus converting the rifle to a No. 4 MKI (T) configuration. The right side of the receiver ring is marked with a "crown/GP" proof mark, over ENGLAND and the left side of the butt socket is marked "M47C/1944/N31692/TR", and it has the original matching bolt. The bolt head is stamped with a "0" indicating minimal use. The rifle is fitted with an original, matching No 32 MKI scope that is marked on top of the tube "TEL. STG. No 32 MKI/O.S. 466A. KL/1941 REG. No7139" over British broad arrow proof. The scope mount is stamped with the rifle serial number (AN 7202) and the rings are numbered 48 and 49 respectively. The rifle has the standard blade front sight and tangent military rear sight. The rifle has an original WWII British issue semi-pistol grip stock and full handguards, both of which have the correct British proof and acceptance marks with the forend serial numbered to the rifle. The butt stock has been correctly stamped/marked on the underside with "S51", the wartime code for Holland & Holland, indicating who performed the conversion work. The rifle is complete with a set of original British issue leather scope covers, a later pattern British Army, No. 8 MK2 canvas scope case, (numbered to rifle S33105) and the original, wartime S.A. No15 Mk1 green wooden storage container. The serial number "S33105" has been hand written on the end label, indicating that it was fitted to the rifle which matches the canvas scope case.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% of the original wartime black parkerized furnish on the rifle overall, with edge and high spot wear. As noted above the rifle has a matching bolt and forend and also a matching numbered magazine. The buttstock, forend and handguards are all in excellent condition with minimal handling marks with a few minor heavier pressure dents on the right side below the ejection port area. The "S51" markings have been lined out for some reason and there is no scope number stamped on the top of the flat of the buttstock behind the receiver. The scope and mount retain 95% of their original wartime finish with wear on the sides of the mount and rear ocular end of the scope itself. The scope has clear optics with no visible dirt of dust inside and the elevation knob works correctly, however the windage knob is stuck. The canvas scope bag is in excellent condition with clear markings on the outside. The wooden storage chest is also in very good condition with clear markings on the front of the box with only light dings and dents overall with more wear on the bottom of the chest itself. The leather handles are original and the leather retaining straps/hinges on the inside are newer replacements. Overall a very nice example of a complete WWII British sniper rifle rig.
