Description:

Produced using a combination of Sharps 1874 pattern receivers and fresh components made by Springfield, only 300 of the Second Type Springfield rifles were produced. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with a matching number "78" on the left side of the barrel and a pair of martial "U" marked barrel bands. Lockplate is unmarked, properly without priming mechanism, with "78" on the upper tang, "C.SHARPS PAT/ SEPT. 12th 1848" on the left side of the frame. Smooth straight grip stock, with cleaning rod, barrel bands, an "ESA" cartouche on the left side of the wrist, "L" on the underside, and "US" on the buttplate heel.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with a mixed brown and gray patina overall, showing areas of mild handling marks. Stock is very good, with a fine ESA cartouche, scattered dents and light scratches. Mechanically excellent.
