Beautiful example of an early Merkel shotgun with solid matte rib with a brass front and ivory mid bead sights, 2 3/4 inch chambers, auto ejectors, choked improved cylinder/cylinder modified, with ejectors. Scalloped Anson & Deely box lock action with cross bolt, cocking indicators, double triggers, and tang safety. The action is engraved with fine scroll patterns with a zigzag border and marked "GEBRUDER MERKEL / SUHL" on the bottom. The left rear of the barrel is marked the same as the action and the opposite side is marked "W. GLASER - WAFFEN / ZURICH". The barrels are dated "1955". Casehardened action and blue remaining parts and mounted with a checkered walnut, 3-piece forearm and pistol grip stock with a checkered buttplate, gold initial oval and sling swivels. Length of pull is 14 5/8 inches. Complete with a hard plastic storage/carrying case.

Excellent. The barrels retain 99% original blue finish with some minor thinning. The trigger guard retains 90% original blue finish with some thinning to a smooth gray on the tang. The action retains at least 90% plus of the original case colors with the balance fading to gray. The wood is very good with a few scattered minor scratches and pressure dents, with crisp checkering. The markings and engraving are excellent. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good.
