Description:

Manufactured circa 1863/64 to 1875/76 this is a Second Type Two Trigger Sporting Rifle. An estimated 7,500 Second Type Rifles were manufactured by Frank Wesson of Worcester, Massachusetts. The Second Type features include the slotted link on the left side of the barrel and frame and a manually operated ejector on the right side of the barrel breech. Blade front and adjustable notch rear sight with a tang sight base only. The top barrel flat is stamped "FRANK WESSON WORCESTER MASS/PAT'D OCT 25 1859 & NOV 11 1862". Blue barrel and casehardened hammer with the remaining metal surfaces nickel plated. Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with a floral blossom stamped behind the lower tang and fitted with a crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 97% original blue finish overall. The receiver, trigger guard and buttplate retain 98% plus original nickel finish showing some loss on the high edges. The stock is also excellent with some minor pressure dents and scratches with most of the finish remaining. Mechanically excellent.
