A) Stevens Arms Co. Tip-Up Rifle with Forend and Swiss Type Buttplate

Description:

This rifle was manufactured between 1870 and 1895. It has a globe front sight and an elevation adjustable mid-range tang peep sight. The left side of the barrel is marked "J. STEVENS A & T. CO./CHICOPEE FALLS. MASS U.S.A. PAT. SEPT. 6. 1864". Mounted on a nicely figured smooth Schnabel forearm and straight grip stock with Swiss style buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished, 80% blue finish remains with high edge wear, scattered light scratches and some small areas of cold blue. The receiver retains 98% original nickel finish with some scattered light dings and scratches. The tang sight does not adjust up and down. The wood is good with a notch cut in the front of the comb for tang sight clearance, a crack in the toe and some scattered light scratches and dings.

Description:

Manufactured from 1872 to 1900. Barrel gauges at .32 caliber and is marked with the one line Stevens & Co. address and patent marking on the upper left flat. The firing pin with the bushing is in the iron frame. Fitted with varnished grips with the right panel numbered to gun. The stock is numbered to the gun.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The barrel retains 30% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina showing a couple areas of minor pitting. The frame retains 80% original nickel finish with minor flaking. The grips are very fine with some minor handling marks and most of the varnish remaining. The stock retains 40% original nickel finish.
