Description:

Originally a Spencer carbine this firearm has subsequently been modified to rifle configuration by an unknown period gunsmith. The full octagon barrel is unmarked, gauges at 46 caliber, and features a hand built large buckhorn rear sight with matching blade front sight, which give the rifle a western frontier look. The saddle ring bar has been removed as part of the period rifle conversion. The top of the receiver retains the original three line Spencer address/1860 patent date marking. The smooth maple forearm has a brass cap and the original walnut carbine stock has a sling swivel.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel retains traces of original brown finish with the overall balance a smooth patina. The receiver retains traces of original silvered out case colors in the protected areas with the balance a smooth dark patina. The wood is fair with a couple hairline cracks on the buttstock, a 2 inch long by 3/4 inch at widest point loss of wood near the magazine tube port (left side), and a number of minor pressure dents. Mechanically fine.
