Class: Antique
Description:

Manufactured circa late 1860s with a total quantity estimated at 800. These pepperboxes were manufactured by Bacon Manufacturing Company and marketed under Continental Arms to avoid confusion with a similar pepperbox by Bacon Arms. The barrel cluster is marked "CONTINENTAL ARMS CO. NORWICH CT./PATENTED AUG. 28, 1866". The unusual design features a shield which encircles the barrel cluster, causing the illusion of the pepperbox having a cylinder at the breech. The right side of the frame has a loading gate cut-out, but without an ejector device. Iron frame and rosewood grips with square butt. The serial number is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip and on the right grip panel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The pistol has a mottled gray patina with the barrel cluster retaining 80% bright original high polish blue finish. There is some very light pitting on the frame and some scattered light spotting on the barrel cluster. The grips are excellent with a few mild handling marks and retaining most of the finish. Mechanically fine.
