Description:

This is an example of an original scarce U.S. Model 1811 flintlock pistol that was manufactured by Simeon North of Berlin, Connecticut. Simeon North manufactured approximately 606 Model 1811 pistols without the double strap iron barrel band added on the later, "Transition", Model 1811 pistols, which would become the standard. The pistol has a 8 3/4-inch, .69 caliber round barrel and a pin-fastened walnut stock. The ramrod pipe, side plate, trigger guard, fenced flash pan and butt cap are brass. The barrel and lock were finished bright. "Eagle/"U.States" is marked on the lock ahead of the hammer and "S.NORTH/BERLIN/CON" behind the hammer. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "P/US", "P" on the back strap and the left stock flat is stamped "V/IIIIP". There is a small "IV" stamped on the left side plate directly behind the front screw. The pistol is complete with a hickory ramrod with swelled tip. The Army Model 1811 flintlock pistol was the last pistol produced at Simeon North's Berlin, Connecticut armory. These pistols saw hard use in the War of 1812 and had a high attrition rate; surviving examples are scarce. Comes with a small wooden plaque with "1811 S. NORTH" marked brass plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine in original flintlock configuration showing a dark patina on the metal surfaces with some minor oxidation. The brass components have a dark, untouched natural aged patina. The stock is good with a repair at the rear of the lock and on the grip area, otherwise only a few minor dents and dings. The consignor notes state the main spring is a replacement. The action fuctions but needs minor work. The markings are clear. An extremely fine example of a scarce and totally original Model 1811 flintlock pistol.
