Description:

1) U.S. 1840 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Sword with Sheath. 35 1/2 inch single fuller blade, with an oval "F.H." stamp on the left side of the ricasso. Gold finished brass 2-branch hilt, with a wire wrapped brown leather grip. With a nickel finished sheath. 2) Pettibone Brothers Lodge Sword for a Member of the Uniform Rank of the Knights of Pythias. Starting out as an assortment of lodge-level drill teams, the Uniform Rank of the Knights of Pythias, aka The Army of the Lily, was formally established in 1878, and experienced a peak membership of approximately 100,000, entering into decline after WWI and finally being disbanded in the 1950s. 33 1/4 inch single fuller blade, with the "KP" monogram on the right ricasso, Pettibone address on the left, and decorative etching on each side, with "Allen C. Walker" on the right. Gilt brass guard, with a lion and helmet pommel, 2-branch guard with "U R", crossed axes and a lily on the underside, and a wire wrapped rayskin grip. Nickel finished sheath with gold washed fittings, the latter displaying an assortment of Knights and Uniform Rank symbols.

Rating Definition:

1) Very good, with mild handling marks and spotting on the blade, a fine aged patina on the exposed areas of the hilt, over 60% of the original gilt finish, and minimal wear to the grip. The sheath shows minor scratches and pitting, with a protective coat of varnish applied. 2) Very good, with some minor flaking and wear on the blade, 60% of the original hilt finish, mild wear on the slightly loose grip, and spotting on the sheath.
