Manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut, in 1827. North manufactured a total of 3,000 of these pistols between 1826 and 1829 and most were subsequently converted to percussion. This pistol has the nipple on top of the barrel and a brass filler where the flash pan was. The pistol was the last U.S. martial pistol manufactured by Simeon North. The pistol is iron mounted with an oil finished black walnut stock. The barrel has an iron swivel ramrod with button head, brass front sight and dished oval rear sight on the tang. An iron belt hook is mounted on the left stock flat. The edges of the lock plate are beveled forward and rounded behind the hammer. The lock plate is dated "1827" behind the hammer and marked "U.S./S. NORTH" ahead of it. The top breech end of the barrel is marked "US/AH/P", with a portion of the "US" covered by the percussion nipple. There is a lightly visible cartouche stamped on the left stock flat above the belt hook.

Rating Definition:

Poor. The metal surfaces have been cleaned and artificially browned. The markings are faint, but legible. The stock has been repaired forward of the left flat and under the right flat. There are visible cracks where the repairs have been made. The markings are visible. The action is fine.
