Description:

Manufactured in 1861, this revolver is one of only about 4,000 Colt Model 1860 Army Revolvers manufactured with the full fluted cylinder. These revolvers appear in the first 8,000 serial numbers and have a four-screw frame with recoil shields cut for an attachable shoulder stock. It has a brass trigger guard, iron back strap, and smooth one-piece walnut grip. The patent date is stamped in one of the cylinder flutes with the serial number stamped in another cylinder flute. The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS COL SAML COLT HARTFORD CT-" and "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped on the left side of the frame. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the letters "S" and "G". Standard blade front and hammer notch rear sights. All serial numbers match, including the wedge and cylinder pin.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus. The revolver has a mottled gray patina showing some very scattered mild pitting. The brass retains strong amounts of original silver plating around the trigger guard. The grip is fine with an old coat of protective varnish and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine. Many of these were already in the South at the outbreak of the Civil War and are considered a Confederate sidearm.
