Description:

This scarce Upper Canada Militia marked Colt Model 1851 London Navy Revolver that was manufactured in 1855 and is one of approximately 55 Model 1851 revolvers shipped to Company G, Napance Troop. An estimated total of 556 Colt Model 1851 revolvers were issued to troops of Upper Canada (see, for example, Nathan Swayze's "51 COLT NAVIES", page 185). The left grip side of this revolver is boldly stamped "UC/G/43". These markings represent Upper Canada, Company G, 43rd Volunteer. Note that this marking is also stamped upside down, a common feature on Upper Canada Navies. Because Upper Canada 1851 Navies are London-London Models, the usual British proofmarks (Crown/V and Crown/GP) are found on the left barrel lug and alternately on the shoulders between the nipple recesses of the cylinder. The top barrel flat is marked "ADDRESS. COL: COLT. LONDON." with arrows at either end of the marking, "COLTS/PATENT" on the left side of the frame, and the Texas navy battle scene with "COLTS PATENT No 35119" on the cylinder. The revolver has matching serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 30% plus original blue finish and 50% original case colors in and around the protected areas showing an overall balance of a smooth brown patina. Most of the cylinder scene remains. The grip is excellent with a barely noticeable period repaired chip on lower forward right side. There are some scattered minor handling marks and some high edge wear with most of the varnish remaining. Mechanically fine.
