This is a rare example of a London proofed, cased Colt Model 1860 Army revolver that was manufactured in 1863. London "Crown/CP" and "Crown/V" proof and inspection marks are stamped on the left side of the barrel lug, and on each cylinder chamber. The barrel, cylinder and back strap have a high polish commercial blue finish. The three screw frame, loading lever and hammer are color casehardened and the brass trigger guard has a silver-plated finish. The one piece walnut grip is varnished with a high gloss 'piano' finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: "-ADDRESS COL. SAM'L COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" in one line. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and "COLT'S PATENT NO./PAT. SEPT 10th 1850". The left side of the frame is roll-stamped: "COLTS/PATENT" in two lines and "44 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. The full serial number, "95395" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. "L" is stamped either above or below the serial number in each location. The partial serial number, "5395" is stamped on the cylinder. All of the visible serial numbers match. The revolver is complete with an English oak case and accessories. The case has the usual brass screws reinforcing the lid and round brass Escutcheon plate. The case interior has eight compartments, is lined with green velvet and has a Joseph Lang trade label on the inside of the lid. The case contains: (1) steel cleaning rod with turned wooden head, (2) combination screw-drive/nipple wrench, (3) blued, iron, .44 caliber, bullet mold with "COLT'S/ PATENT" on the spruce cutter and "D" on the right block, (4) sealed package of Hazard's cartridges for "COLTS ARMY PISTOL", (5) 500 count tin of Eley Bros percussion caps in japanned tin with green paper label, (6) "DIXON & SONS/PATENT" bag-shaped, medium size powder flask with brown lacquer body, polished top and adjustable charger, and (7) pewter oil bottle marked "JAMES DIXON/& SONS/SHEFFIELD" on the bottom. London cased and proofed Colt Model 1860 Army revolvers are extremely rare.

Very fine. The revolver retains 60% of the original blue, 95% casehardened and 70% silver plated finish. The upper portion of the barrel has a very attractive, smooth, dove-gray patina. Considerable blue finish is present on the lug and underside of the barrel. The forward portion of the cylinder has a dove-gray patina and retains about 90% of the battle scene; the rebated portion of the cylinder has most of the blue finish intact. The cylinder pins are battered and the percussion nipples have moderate flash pitting. Most of the high polish blue finish is present on the back strap. The loading lever, frame and hammer retain nearly 90% of the color casehardened finish with vivid case colors. About 70% of the delicate, silver-plated finish is present on the trigger guard, The grip is in excellent condition with most of the varnish finish and scattered handling and storage marks. The case exterior is in good condition with no cracks or repairs; the lid has what appears to be several minor water stains. The lining is in very good condition with some fading and some minor compression marks. The trade label is in very good condition. All of the accessories are in fine condition. This is a very good example of a rare London cased and proofed Model 1860 Army revolver.
