Description:

Manufactured in 1858, this particular Colt Model 1849 revolver has a three-inch octagon barrel with no provision for a loading lever and small round trigger guard. The revolver is in the correct 140,000-151,000 serial range for the "Wells Fargo" Model 1849 revolvers without loading levers. The top of the barrel is marked "{ADDRESS SAML COLT / NEW YORK CITY}". The five-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and "COLTS PATENT / No.149807" in two panels and "COLTS/ PATENT" is stamped on the left side of the frame. The complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder, the wedge is un-numbered and the arbor pin is marked "9807". There is a small "M" stamped on the left side trigger guard shoulder, a "2" on the bottom left side of the barrel lug and the number "8" is stamped below the serial number on the frame. Fitted with one piece varnished grips. Wells Fargo models are a desirable and highly sought after variation of the Colt Model 1849 pocket series.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The crisp metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina. The cylinder scene is 60% visible. The brass has an attractive aged patina with traces of the original silver in protected areas. The grip is very good with some minor wear on the lower edges. The markings are clear. The action is fine.
