Description:

This is a George V era Officer's Lance cap circa 1910. The skull and peak are black patent leather with gold embroidery and lace. The mortar board is gray melton cloth crossed with lancer gold cording. Gilt and silver helmet plate with the battle honor "SOUTH AFRICA" and the regimental pseudonym "ROUGH RIDERS" all topped by the Kings crown. Gold bullion plume boss with "GR" cypher and a light blue cock's feather plume without a ring. Gilt lion's head ear bosses suspend a gilt chin chain with velvet backing. The inside is lined with red silk and a leather brow band.

Rating Definition:

Fine, showing some minor wear to the exterior. The plate has a dark aged patina on the silver and the gilt components are bright. The inner lining is partially detached and the leather brow band ripped and tape repaired.
