Description:

Produced for use by Napoleon's heavy cavalry, the AN XI sword was optimized for the point work favored by the French combat doctrines of the day, as opposed to the slashing techniques popular with other nations. These blades were in use during the wars of the 6th and 7th Coalitions, including the Iberian Peninsular Campaign and the Battle of Waterloo. Measuring 43 inches overall, the 37 1/2 inch blade has wide double fullers, stamped "B" and "L" on the right side, and signed "Mfture Impe Du Klingenthal Octobre 1813". Brass 3-branch guard, with "3849", "F", "B" and "38" stamped on the left side of the bow, a brown leather sword knot and a brass wire wrapped leather grip. With a steel scabbard, stamped "B" atop the throat.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with some minor handling marks overall. A small amount of verdigris is present on the grip wire, with minimal leather staining. Scabbard is very good, with areas of brown patina and scattered scratches.
