Description:

This is a nice example of a very high grade percussion target rifle manufactured by "S.C. Kingman. The rifle has a heavy 32 1/2 inch octagon barrel fitted with a globe front and adjustable rear sights. There is a tang mounted mid-range peep sight. The lock is marked "S.C. KINGMAN" in a banner and the top barrel flat is marked with a compass similar to that of the Masons. The barrel is blue, lock and hammer casehardened and the remaining parts are silver plated. Silver plated brass scroll extended trigger guard with palm rest base mounted on the finial and adjustable double set triggers. There is a solid under rib on the barrel with two iron pipes that secure the wooden ramrod. Mounted with a checkered walnut straight grip half stock with a silver plated Schoyen Schuetzen style buttplate. The rifle comes with a wooden palm rest, bullet mold marked "S.C. KINGMAN/40 CAL." and "75", a brass wooden handled bullet starter, 23 small glass containers for black powder each marked "S.C. KINGMAN/BRIDGEPORT/CONN", in boxes, bullet sizer marked "39/100" and "S.C. KINGMAN" in a banner and a brass powder measure

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel retains 70% original thinning blue finish with a smooth brown patina on the balance. The lock and hammer have a smooth dark patina. Most of the silver plating remains on the remaining surfaces with some wear on the top of the buttplate and a small amount of scattered minor flaking. The stock is very good with a few minor dings and scratches. The action is excellent. All the accessories are good or better.
