Description:

This is a Czar Nicholas II era officer's helmet of the Czar's personal guard. The skull, front peak and lobstertail are all composed of gilt metal. There is a large, highly detailed silvered two-headed Russian Imperial Eagle wearing the Romanov crown and the shield emblem of St. George and the dragon on the breast. The chin scales are leather backed and there is an Imperial Russian cockade on the right side. The front plate has a silvered rayed star with a blue enamel circular center with gold cyrillic writing translated to "For Faith and Loyalty" with a smaller circle in the center having the two-headed eagle. The front peak is lined in black velvet, the lobstertail is lined in red velvet, the sweat band is tan leather and there is a red silk lining.

Rating Definition:

Excellent, the gold plated skull and peaks are bright. The silvered components have a multi-color aged patina on the eagle and a dark patina aged on the star. The leather liner shows minor wear. The velvet has a few light marks and the silk lining has faded with stains. This is an excellent example of a very rare helmet.
