This is an excellent example of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 U.S. Army revolver. It features fixed sights consisting of a forged round blade front and a notch frame cut rear sight. The top of the barrel has the two line S&W address/patent dates. The left side of the barrel is marked "S&W DA 45", the underside of the barrel is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the bottom of the butt is marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No/ 4/361". The upper left rear side of the frame has the monogram "GHS" final inspection mark. The matching serial number is marked on the butt, barrel, and rear cylinder face. The crane and frame are marked with the assembly number "4084". Fitted with smooth oil finished walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 97% plus original blue finish with some light wear on the sides of the barrel and a combination of original thin blue and smooth brown patina on the grip straps. The hammer and trigger retain almost all of the original case colors. The grips are excellent with a small chip on the lower right edge and a few minor dents and handling marks. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
