This is a fine example of a Smith & Wesson Model 1917 U.S. Army revolver. It features fixed sights consisting of a forged round blade front and a notch frame cut rear sight. The top of the barrel has the two line S&W address/patent dates. The left side of the barrel is marked "S&W DA 45", the underside of the barrel is marked " "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and the bottom of the butt is marked "U.S./ARMY/MODEL/1917/No/105/706". The left side of the frame is marked with the "flaming bomb" and the "eagle head/S12" (the "2" is not visible due to stamping location). The serial number is marked on the bottom of the butt, barrel and rear cylinder face. The crane and frame are marked with the assembly number "73625". Fitted with smooth oil finished walnut grips.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 90% of the original finish with sharp edge wear and marks from handling and use. The frame has a small area of pitting above the crane and spotting on the back strap. The cylinder shows some wear spots and pitting. The grips are excellent with use and handling marks. A surface crack is visible on the left grip below the grip screw. Mechanically excellent.
