This is an example of a Merwin Hulbert & Co., large frame, double action revolver with top strap, fluted cylinder and flat butt. The revolver has a nickel-plated finish with color casehardened hammer and trigger guard. The two-piece grips are pearl. The butt is fitted with a factory lanyard ring. The barrel has an integral half-moon front sight and the top strap has a sighting groove. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. New York, U.S.A. Pat. Apl. 17. 77. June 15. 80. Mar. 14. 82. Jan. 9. 83." in a single line. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped "THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co. Norwich. Conn. U.S.A.". "CALIBER/WINCHESTER" followed by "1873" is roll stamped on the left side of the frame below the cylinder. The serial number is stamped on the butt with the assembly number "1660" stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip, face of the barrel lug and rear face of the cylinder.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 80% original nickel finish with the balance a mottled gray patina. The grips are fine with a few missing chips and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine but a little loose.
