Colt Single Action Cavalry Model Revolver inspected by Ordnance Sub-Inspector David F. Clark (DFC) and Ordnance Final Inspector Capt. Frank Heath. The revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that states it was delivered to the U.S. government inspector at the Colt plant on December 14, 1885. The revolver has a military blue finish on the barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. The frame, loading gate and hammer have a color casehardened finish. The one-piece walnut grip is oil finished. The revolver has the oval ejector rod head introduced at approximately serial number 113,000 and ''cavalry style'' hammer with elongated, bordered, knurling on the spur and a cone-shaped firing pin. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the elongated block letter address: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.". Small "D.F.C." sub-inspection stamps are located on the underside of the barrel, the bottom of the frame, side of the cylinder and the left grip heel. A "P'' proofmark is stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the sub-inspection mark and on the side of the cylinder. The left side of the frame is stamped with the Colt three-date/three-line patent marking followed by the "U.S." property mark. The assembly number "1109" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. Colt "O", "G" and "J" inspection marks are stamped on the underside of the barrel behind the ejector housing stud. A Colt "S" inspection mark is stamped on the rear face of the cylinder between the chambers. "G" and "J" are stamped in the hammer well above the firing pin hole. "G" is stamped below the serial number on the back strap. The full serial number "116718" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "6718" is stamped on the underside of the barrel and the side of the cylinder. The partial serial number "6718" is written in pencil in the back strap recess of the grip. All of the visible serial numbers match. The lower left side of the grip is stamped with the date "1885" above the Ordnance final inspection mark which consists of the initials "FH" enclosed in a circle. The lower right side of the grip is stamped with the Ordnance sub-inspection mark consisting of the script initials "D.F.C." is a rectangle with rounded ends.

Very fine as partially restored (trigger guard only). The balance of revolver retains 70% plus of the original blue and casehardened finish. The blue finish is thinning along the sides of the barrel and on the edge of the ejector housing. The cylinder has about 85% of the blue finish with the balance fading to a dark patina. Most of the refinished blue is present on the trigger guard. The original finish on the rear grip strap is thin. The back strap has about 40% of the blue finish; the balance is a blue-gray patina. The frame has at least 85% of the color casehardened finish with some silvering on the top strap and recoil shield. The loading gate has half of the case colors intact and the hammer shows edge wear and retains about 70% of the original case colors. The grip is in also in very fine condition with several minor dents and bruises. The Ordnance final inspection, sub-inspection marks and date are clear and the grip retains most of the oil finish. All the markings on the barrel and frame are crisp. The bore is bright. The action is tight and functions perfectly. This is a solid representation example of a U.S. Colt Single Action Cavalry Model revolver.
